William Walker Atkinson must go down in history as one of the most prolific authors ever, considering he wrote many books under his own name and a variety of nom-de-plumes, as well as holding down a full-time job in the legal profession.
His interest in spiritualism and self-help apparently began when he became seriously ill early in his career. He attributes self-help and spiritualism as saving him from his malaise. His book "Thought Vibrations and The Law of Attraction", written in 1906 is a book in which his personal enthusiasm comes through clearly, perhaps even more so then Napoleon Hill, 20 years later. Many of the techniques rely on personal affirmation of positive thoughts you wish to imprint on your inner self and thus become.
There is little doubt that Haanel's Master Key System was influenced by this book, as the phraseology is very similar in many places. The same can also be said works by Genevieve Behrend around the same time, although her works take on a more religious nature than most.
